System Design
Designing an information system is like creating a building plan. The system design has to be in line with the organisational vision and has to fit into the existing culture and appeal to the users. A system design can be made after a basic architecture and thorough proces architecture have been made. A good business process model will greatly improve the development speed of the system design and eventually the implementation of the information system.
Design steps
Functional Design
Intermedio designs information systems based on architectural assumptions and a business process design. Based on the needs and demands from within the organization Intermedio develops a functional design. The functional design offers an overview of all functionalities of the future information system. The functional design can be used to make develpment and investment decisions. Besides that the functional design will reduce the risk of implementation issues later on. As the functional design is made up in plain text (no programming codes or complex models) it can support the communication with suppliers of (parts of) the information system. This way everybody has the same information and all contractors should understand what to do, resulting in an end result that will work as expected.
Technical Design
To be able to construct the information system, the functional design is translated to a technical design. The technical design checks if all functions can indeed be realised and how this should be done. The technical design also calculates needed hardware performance and infrastructural needs.
Implementation
Intermedio Information architects and designers are closely involved during the implementation of their designs. This way Intermedio can guarantee consistency between design and actual end product. The information architects guard the vision of the organisation and make sure that it's translated correct into the end product by acting as an intermediate between designers and software engineers. The designers maintain an optimal implementation of the design and make changes to the design if needed during the construction. As the information architects and system designers are not attached to a single supplier, they work very well with third party developers, or your own software developers. Existing relations with suppliers can be mainained, while still making big quality improvements.
Prerequisites for System Design
Intermedio advises a system design as an integral part of the information architecture and to create a process design before it. Do you already have an architecture, or do you only need a specific system design, than still feel free to contact us. Even parts of an architecture will greatly improve your overall information infrastructure and reduce costs.
